2 Disappointing Stars
Emotionally manipulative and pushing of personal political agendas.
Wow - well, this author got me with The Great Alone which was my top fave book of 2020. After that, I read The Nightingale, which was also good, though I personally did not like the ending.
This however.....?!?!?!?
I don't even know where to start. I knew going in that the book was about The Great Depression, so I wasn't expecting rainbows and sunshine. But, my God woman, this is the most depressing book ...more

I would like to have a few words with Ms Hannah. This is an excellent book. I haven’t read anything about this period of time, except for when I pretended to have read The Grapes of Wrath for school. But, Kristin? (Can I call you Kristin?) WHY IS THIS BOOK SO SAD?!?
Again, it’s a great book. It might be my second favorite of hers. (Nothing is topping Nightingale.) But oh my this one will put you through the feels. But I loved it from the first sentence to the last one.
Well done, Ms Hannah. Well ...more

I normally would never pick up a historical fiction book about The Great Depression, but I love Kristin Hannah so much that I knew I had to read this one. It did not disappoint. The writing was excellent and the story was so well thought out and came together so perfectly. Like any book by Hannah, it will make you teary and tug at your heart, but it is so worth it. I learned something from this book and felt like it was so relatable even though it was set a hundred years ago.
