This was a very exciting, novel book, with a plot that didn't let me down. The book is set up with two different time frames: 1986 and 2016.

Back in the day four boys were good friends, a gang and most of them had nicknames based on their looks or something else: Eddie Adams, aka Eddie Munster; David Hopkins, aka Hoppo, Gavin, aka Fat Gav, and Nicky (female) who had no nickname.

The Chalk Man is everything I could want in a book: Well-written, suspenseful, vivid imagery, beautiful prose, profound insight, creepy atmosphere, and some startling twists. While there are some graphic scenes, it is not gratuitously violent. Those scenes serve an important purpose and are not extensive throughout the book.

Overall, I enjoyed The Chalk Man. It was creepy, suspenseful, and well written. But my head is spinning from the ending and I still have a lot of questions; this is not necessarily a negative. I do want to go back to the beginning to highlight several poignant lines that stood out for me.
