I went between 3 and 4 stars.... At time, I felt the book bogged itself down in detail and then a few pages later, the detail was magnificent.
Chile along with the DelValle and Trueba families were in disarray and turmoil. This novel with mystical touches travels through the good, the bad and the ugly of both. Strong female characters, unforgettable weak male characters, redemption and horror abound.

Very intense powerful story of generations of a family in south America. The writing sort of reminiscent of East of Eden to me. So much happens in this book. Stories upon stories. I really loved it and was sorry it was over.
