Drowned City by Don Brown is distinguished by all definitions of the word. Brown brings scientific, geographic, and societal complexities to life on the page through both his illustrations and words. A heartbreaking must read and a perfect addition to any classroom or library.

Excellent graphic novel treatment of Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. Gives succinct depiction of the creation of the storm and where it went, and what happened. Told as it happens, in present tense. Don Brown does an excellent job presenting the disaster that New Orleans experienced at the mercy of Hurricane Katrina through vivid pictures and objective narrative. Many different perspectives are represented, and the extent of the horror is not minimized, but presented in a compelling way, including some surprising facts. Very well done.

This graphic novel gives a powerful, yet succinct summary of the disaster caused by Hurricane Katrina. The artwork matches the text. Shades of purple, browns, yellows and greens give the book an appropriately somber feel.

Don Brown has a way of making you feel like you are there...in the dust bowl, in New Orleans after Katrina. Horrific and beautiful at the same time.

This was a stark, short depiction of the absolutely devastating events that occurred 10 years ago. It was VERY well done, I just really wanted more, such as an author's note at the end. ...more

Deeply sad, and yet a necessary piece of our understanding of modern history in America.
