Yes, yes I'm aware that Grave Mercy came out like three years ago, that the trilogy is already complete and I'm only starting it now. So what? I do what I want! :P
I saw a copy of this on Netgalley as a 'Read Now' and jumped immediately at the chance to start a series that I've been eyeing off for a long time. It ultimately did not disappoint, but it didn't blow me away either. I'm finding that to be the case with a lot of the books I read these days...they're go

Grave Mercy is like the Mists of Avalon had a baby with Kristen Cashore's Fire (Both books I love, love love.) Sired by Death, and rejected and brutalized by her "father", Ismae escapes a terrible life by becoming an member of a convent of death's handmaidens, where she is trained as as assassin and in the art of seduction. Thing is, though, that Ismae preferred spending her time learning about poisons rather than attend seduction classes, so when her next assignment is to pretend to be the hono

More of a 3.5. I really enjoyed it, and plan to read the rest of the series. It just didn't break any new ground for me.

In the end, this proved to be entertaining, but that is the best I can say about this book. I read some of the other reviews, and while I enjoyed the story, I didn't find it as engrossing as most. It reminded me of adult historical romance novels minus the good sex. Some good sex would have really improved the book overall for me. I also was highly annoyed by the misuse of "myself" which seems to be ubiquitous these days and is a really big pet peeve. "A small procession of attendants accompanie

I enjoyed this book so much I immediately went out and bout book 2 in the series! This story has intrigue, plots twists, beauty, and romance. Ismae and Duvall have an immediate dislike of each other but as the story continues that changes. Readers hope for the best possible endings, but sadly not all of the ending is happy. An excellent choice for readers who like historical fiction, romance and adventure all in one book!
I received this audiobook for free from Audio Book Sync. I am not usually a huge audiobook fan because I find them to move slowly. This book was incredible. I would recommend it to anyone who is trying to get into audiobooks. It reminded me a bit of Kristin Cashore's Graceling. 17-year-old Ismae is blessed with gifts from the god of Death, St. Mortain. After she escapes an arranged marriage, she is taken in by a convent, who trains her to become an undercover assassin. I was hooked from the begi

Good read, I'm looking forward to the next one, but not so amazing that I'm going to crow about it. Political intrigue, historical information that I found interesting, and a good hero.

Good storytelling! There really wasn't a dull moment in the book.
