As you can probably guess from the premise, this book is gritty, dark, and very sad. Considering the subject matter revolves around meth and a lot of personal hurt, I can’t say I “liked” this book, but I did enjoy reading Laurel’s story.

The writing: This is very fast-paced, which was nice after my previous read. It is quite short at 182 pages, and though I enjoyed the story, it did come off a tiny bit to me as one of those “warning” stories, which I think is partially due to the small

Jacqueline Woodson fans, rejoice! Her latest book is a good one!
I enjoyed this book so much I read it twice in a row. This is the story of Laurel who struggles with meth addiction. Oh, she wants to quit so her younger brother Jesse Jr. will look up to her, she has a loving father, a best friend, cheerleading. . . but the meth calls to her too . . . a couple snorts or smokes and all her pain and memories of the tragic losses of her mother and grandmother will be gone. Beneath a Meth Moon by Jacqueline Woodson (YA)

This book tells the story of Laurel, a teenage girl, who is addicted to meth. Laurel's mother and grandmother are killed in a hurricane and that grief spirals Laurel into the grips of a drug addiction that means she risks losing her family, her friends and her life.
