An excellent profile of a butch lesbian teen, GIRL MANS UP covers a story badly needed in YA. The characters are very well developed and Pen is an incredibly strong female voice for LBGTQ readers. My only complaint is the author relied too heavily on dialogue; so much that the book is basically 90% dialogue. The writing isn't as strong as it could be, but otherwise a good read! ...more

2016 keeps giving fantastic LGBTQ characters & stories. Considering the political madness of our country right now, it couldn't have happened at a better time.
