This book is now one of my FAVORITE books!
I Think that death being the narrator of this story made it much more interesting and easier to read. We experienced the Holocaust through his eyes and I liked the fact that he was very emotional and saw colors and people for who they were. He hated carrying children and good people away but knew there was nothing he could do about it. The way he talked about Liesel's life throughout the years was great. One of the most beautifully-written stories I have ever read. Zusak has a non-traditional approach to language, but has done a phenomenal job. I was reading along with Mark Reads but got to the beginning of Part Ten and just had to read through to the end. I promised myself I wouldn't, but after the first 'chapter' of Part Ten, I couldn't not finish today. This is a tragic but ultimately uplifting book, written with a clear love for the effect of words.

This is an achingly beautiful book. The author is a true wordsmith and some of his turns of phrase were absolute gems.
One disclaimer: this is not a a fast, page-turning read. It is honest to goodness literature, in the best sense of the word. It left me fully satisfied, and yet wishing for more.
