I just am overwhelmed with how much I loved this book. Will try to put words together to form a real review tomorrow.
After a night of sleep I think I can form coherent thoughts on this book.
I had heard great things about this book but did not even know what it was about until I saw it on sale at audible.com. I read the blurb and thought oh it's one of those books - purposefully meaningful, obviously meant to make you cry. I had heard such good things that I decided to try it anyways.

This makes two teen-with-cancer books in a row I've read. Maybe this is a sub-genre of YA. Probably not. This and the other, "Me and Earl and the Dying Girl" are very different. That one was a black comedy. This one is a bittersweet almost-comedy. The humor comes from the voice of the main character, Hazel, and somewhat from her love interest Agustus. She's wise beyond her years, and some might complain that she's too wise and savvy to be a believable 16-year-old (or is she 17?). I disagree, pos

Chocolates, broccoli and infinities. You know the short story 'The Leg of Lamb' by Roald Dahl? I had to read it for a class years ago and when I came back amused, horrified and so very confused, my literature teacher told us that the story is what people would call black humor - and that is what this story felt like for me. I just finished it, i'm raw out of it and I'm not sure if I want to flip back to the parts that made me laugh or the parts that made me almost tear and go "you've got to be k

Green gets way too much hype for his books because he uses big long fancy words and his trademark John Green humour. This book was a cancer book like any other. Nothing was particularly stand-out about it. Sure, it made me cry...but that doesn't make it a good book, just shows that I have a heart.

The reason why I gave this one four stars.. and not five is because I did not get it at first. I was confused and a little sad , but I think that is what John Green was trying to do.
Despite it's heavy content, it's a fun read and a quick read. I enjoyed it, this is the type of book that makes you feel like you've lived another life. ...more

I loved this book so much that I took pictures of it's pages. No joke.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this story, since I avoid reading excerpts or backs of books to see what they are about, but am very pleased I bought it. Wow! I had to pace myself to avoid falling apart in front of people while reading it. I started reading at home only, since I knew I was going to be pulled in. Green keeps very good emotional control of this story. It was a real treat to read.

I don't know how this book for so many accolades. I thought the writing was absolutely horrible. I just couldn't get into any of the characters. I did not cry. I can't even give it more than 2 stars..
I also felt this was incredibly triggering for anyone that has watched a loved one die of cancer. ...more
