Wow - I can't figure out how this book got such rave reviews. Other than a slightly unique mythology, there wasn't much that was great about it. The story completely dragged for me in the middle and when it changed to the typical YA "beautiful boy and beautiful girl are inexplicably drawn to one another because they have the most awesomest love at first sight," I was done.

Okay, having just finished a reread of this in preparation to finally read the sequels I have to say I don't even agree with myself on my former review. The last hundred pages I didn't even remember from the first go around. And the ending completely ruined me.
I will admit, I had higher expectations for this one. That being said I did definitely enjoy it. Laini Taylor has a way with words the storytelling is magnificent in this novel. I never felt like I was getting too much or ...more

It's a large book, and the first half seemed to go at a slower pace. I'm not hugely into the storyline but it's well written and leaves a huge cliffhanger so i'll likely continue with it when the next in the series is released.
