My first Chick Lit book, I think.
Wow.

I am very in love with the Sky is Everywhere.

Lennie is a band geek and book lover -- specifiacally addicted to Wuthering Heights. Her sister Bailey just died. She's grieving. And so is Bailey's boyfriend, Toby. Lennie feels a connection to Toby because of their shared grief. Joe comes in to town and Lennie falls head over heels for him.

This super romantic, depressing book really rocked my world.

Lennie Walker has just lost her sister. She’s grief-stricken, devastated and is long far from getting over it and dealing with it. The Sky Is Everywhere follows the story of Lennie as she tries to cope and live with the fact that her sister’s dead – one seemingly impossible task. And as she goes through this very tough time, she finds solace in the one person that shares and understands just what and how she feels – Toby, her sister’s boyfriend – and meets one who makes her feel right and happy again after she thought she never would – Joe Fontaine. Lennie Walker is one tough character. She’s very direct but very reserved at the same time. And after losing her sister, she became very distraught. You see, they had an unyielding relationship, one built on trust and love and made of promises and secrets shared. They were always the Walker sisters –never referred to one without the other. This, for me, is one of the many astonishing things about this book. I, myself, have two older sisters and our relationship is nothing quite like Lennie and Bailey’s. What they have is pure love and sisterly affection only they share.

The Sky Is Everywhere is a very good book to read. It is written in great detail swimming with so much emotion in it. One can feel the loss, grief, regret, and joy just as clearly as the characters themselves.
The characters are all rounded up. They are all equally driven with unique personalities that make them more absorbing. Joe for one is really adorable. He’s very alive with so much color in him everything else pales in comparison. He has a way of speaking his mind and voicing out his thoughts. He’s one who makes everyone around him feel elated and joyous no matter what they’re going through. He is sweet, dependable and a hottie with a passion for music. And then there’s Toby, Bailey’s boyfriend. After losing Bailey, he was the one who made Lennie feel so much closer to her sister. I guess you could say that they had quite a confusing relationship. They both share the hurt and grief over losing Bailey and I guess this is what made them feel somehow “connected”. Anyway, Toby is a really nice guy but I think he’s better in the brotherly department than in the hooking-up-with. I’m glad things worked out between them.

The Sky Is Everywhere is overall an exceptional novel written with an insight about loss and love. How it is that there’s always a bright spot in an otherwise endless void. And one of the many realizations in this novel is that you never really lose someone. Not when they die nor when they go to some far place you don’t know… as long as you have them in your heart and keep them alive in the memories you cherish most.

This novel is full of life lessons that are truly inspiring that will surely touch the hearts of the readers. A must-read to all.

I asked all my Twitter friends what book they could recommend me that is contemporary romance and features some bigger issues. This book came up a lot. So I decided to give it a go. And I'm so glad I did. After a few humps along the way, I ended up really enjoying this one.

This is a book all abut grief. Lennie loses her sister Bailey and thinks no one understands what that feels like. Except her sister's boyfriend who is also struggling with Bailey's absence. They end up making some really decisions where they end up in each other's arms. Then on top of that there is a certain new boy named Joe who fell for Lennie the very first time they met.
There were so many ways I connected to this story. I was in band in high school and i certainly know the competition that goes on in between the chairs. Also, when my godfather died I remember calling his cell phone over and over just to hear his voice. Then there was the grief stricken emotional ties. I understood this as well. This connection is what I loved most about the story. It was so completely relate-able at some points I felt like I was reading my own story.
The only thing I didn't like was the juvenile nature it put off. For the MC to be 17, she spoke like she was in middle school. Maybe its just me, but where I'm from people didn't think things like that in high school. And people quit writing on their shoes in middle school.
After I got over what I thought was the age difference, I was able to enjoy the writing style. I fell in love with Jandy Nelson's words. So many quotes I wrote down while reading this one like: "You can tell your story any way you damn well please. It's your solo." and "You can chop the Victorian novel to shreds with garden shears but you can't take it out of the girl." I was able to fully enjoy it towards the end.
I'm actually glad that I waited this long to read this because reading it now I could really enjoy it. This tale of sadness and grief is one that that is truly unforgettable. ...more
