Shelves: best-series-ever

OMFG. Words cannot even begin to describe the absolute magnificence of this terrifying, exhilarating, and heart-breaking novel. I JUST finished the book and it was MIND-BLOWING!!!!!! it just kept going and going until the very last sentence!!!! Whenever I thought the book would finally have some closer there was mote mind blowing crap happening and it's just too much to take in at once!!! I need like a whole day to soak it all in!!! WTF!!!! Holy. Crap. WHAT DID I JUST READ

This book was so good for so many different reasons. The characters, plot, and writing were all SO amazing. Everything had a meaning and it all tied--more or less-- together in the end. But of course, some ties must be kept loose for the sequels.

I should probably start with the plot. Todd Hewitt is almost a man . A real man, by his society's standards. In his small world of Prentisstown, everyone can hear everyone's thoughts... and everyone is also a male. From Holy. Crap. WHAT DID I JUST READ

This book was so good for so many different reasons. The characters, plot, and writing were all SO amazing. Everything had a meaning and it all tied--more or less-- together in the end. But of course, some ties must be kept loose for the sequels.

I should probably start with the plot. Todd Hewitt is almost a man . A real man, by his society's standards. In his small world of Prentisstown, everyone can hear everyone's thoughts... and everyone is also a male. From the beginning, you are latched on to Todd's journey of both self-discovery and of fighting against a system he never knew existed. The action is constant throughout the entire book, only leaving you wanting more. On the way he meets Viola, the first girl he's ever /really/ met; the two are confused with what to do with each other at first, but their relationship develops and evolves in so many ways throughout the book.

The characters were SO. AMAZING. Ben, Cilian, Todd, Viola, and even Aaron. I loved them all. I'm a bit confused with how exactly Aaron managed to actually, you know, survive anything he went through but either way his character is so evil and manipulative and cunning that you can't not be intrigued by him. I also thoroughly enjoyed all of the citizens that helped Todd and Viola on their adventure; each of them brought something new to the table that made the entire book enjoyable. I feel I don't even need to mention Manchee, the beautiful, loyal dog he is. Todd and Manchee's development throughout the book must be my favorite aspect of the entire thing.

While at first the writing struck me as odd--I think that's a general response to the book. But it helps you gain so much insight into Todd's life and who he really is.. so much so that you begin to get used to it. It builds the suspense impeccably and leads you to understand Todd on a much more personal level.

The symbols and metaphors in this book were so prominent that I feel it's so much more than just a YA or a book in a series. It's a book that can teach you things about life, despite the fact that their world and ours can not be more different. I'm so, super, excited to read the sequel of this book and continue reading about the New World, and what happens to Todd and Viola as their adventures progress. LOVED IT LOVED IT LOVED IT ...more
