It was a really good story and the most original I have read so far. I was a bit shocked at first at how brutal Yelena was treated (being made to live in a filthy dungeon with little food and water, being chained, etc) and it got even worst when she was turned into a food taster. This is also the first YA book I have read where the lead character was raped. That being said, I am not sure that this series should be read by very young teens.
