It was a bit spastic at times and Katniss was not the Katniss I loved and admired from the first two books. She was a shell of herself with no clear focus or passion or really had any of her endearing qualities still intact. I wanted to cuddle her and get her a little cabin in the woods far far away from the Capitol and the Rebels alike. It seemed like the few new characters that Wow. It seemed like the few new characters that truly cared about her didn't really get a chance to connect with her before they got blown up, eaten, or (insert violent death here). Gale, my sexy, Gale; what happened to you? Yes you are a brave solider. Yes I know you still love and care about your best friend Katniss but how do you prove this to her? How do you show that she means everything to you? You don't. You totally drop the ball. You are smart and probably had a lot to do with getting the upper hand on the Capitol and for Katniss still breathing at the end of this saga but you should have known that was not what she needed. I get you are a hunter and you are your families protector and that you watched District 12 burn. You have problems too - I get it. But as a best friend and a potential lover you sucked it in this book. When were you going to fight for Katniss? In the end you left her to fend for herself - come on do you really think Haymitch and Greasy Sea are capable of looking out for her? Oh and don't get me started on Peeta. What a mess. I know this is cold and that nobody will agree but they should have put a bullet in his head the moment he put his hands around Katniss' throught. It would have been better for everyone involved. He was a sick little puppy after President snow was done with him. His presence and state of mind just made Katniss spiral faster into her little dark and twisty existence. In the end I did like this book - even if I didn't like how all the characters behaved. I guess I thought it fitting because I didn't think it a happy story at all. Everyone basically abandoned Katniss and Peeta after they served their purpose(s). Yeah they ended up together but it didn't even seem like a choice - there was no one else. ...more

For some reason it was hard for me to get through Catching Fire and I put it away for a few months before I finished it up. I remembered why I loved the series to begin with: the characters and the refreshing feeling of reading something that hasn't been done before. Mockingjay is no different, except here we see the characters fall apart over and over again and almost give up their will to live on multiple occasions.

Wow, I did not expect this ending, it was very sad, brought a tear to my eye, and I truly loved it. Very dramatic and violent and traumatic, even though, all in all, it's a happily ever after type of ending. I loved the epilogue, though Katniss is still coping with everything 20 years later.
This series is targeted to teens and young adults, but I'm 27 and it was a blast!

really liked the first two books but this last one felt too long and not as good. I still think the first hunger games is a masterpiece and should be given to anyone who thinks reading books is boring!
