Obviously, this is Purcell's dissertation or thesis. It reads like one. The biggest qualm I had with her research was it's extremely East Coast centric. I believe metal heads differ widely from state to state. I do feel, however, she dispels many myths and phobias about the genre to a wider audience. She seems genuinely dedicated to her research and managed to engage herself with the community. Not as entertaining as Ian Christie, but an educating read, nonetheless.
