I can't say that I recall the story itself but I do remember being curious about the mysterious lights in the supposed haunted mansion where Lila was "hosting" her house party. Of course, expect "things that go bump in the night" to have a more sinister interpretation after one hears a ghost story.
This will appeal to children who likes being scared but not too much.

So it’s Halloween (again 😬), and Lila’s father is throwing a party at an alleged haunted house, and the whole class is invited. Apparently Lila’s mother (who is mentioned a lot for someone who abandoned her as a baby, hmm) was related to the owners (the ghost) and Lila looks just like the young girl. They play some Halloween games, but then realise Charlie and Jerry (the class jerks) are missing. The twins, Lila, Ken, Todd and Winston go upstairs to look for them, but noises scare them all back
