I haven't read a Stephen King novel in many years, and was expecting something more supernatural/horror-like, but this story was more politically and environmentally focused, so I kept reading waiting for something else to happen. I was especially turned off by the excess of drug users/abusers. The ending was a bit disappointing for me. I give it 2 stars "it was OK" only because I did want to keep reading to see what would happen.

The storyline is good and has some great details. There's a lot of details and seems a bit wordy. There are also so many characters to follow and it jumps around. It can be interesting and break up the wordiness of it. Or it can be difficult to follow. The ending was a disappointment, but I was prepared for it from reading other reviews first. This was better on my second reading. I have to say, I had forgotten how completely loathsome Big Jim Rennie is--I hated him SO MUCH!! I don't think he got his just desserts at the end. It was a gripping read, though, and I gave it another star this time around.
