I was so skeptical when a friend gave me this book and said it was her favorite book ever. Then I started into it and couldn't put it down. If you ever are in a slump and need something to pull you out, this is a great one.

Felt at home in the prose right away. I notice how much my perspective on how other people live have changed: A person in the book is living in a one house settlement near a road but far from everything and rarely see any other people. Mail is about once a month. The children have no playmates outside the family and will gather to just look at people passing the place. That was just how things were.

I would give this book twenty stars if it were possible. Grabs your interest by the throat and doesn't let go, even after you've finished it!
