I jumped into this book after reading Anna Karenina and loving it. I thought the next logical step is to get myself more of that from the other great Russian author of the time. Perhaps my expectations weren’t set right, and the 3 stars might come partly from that… here we go:
It’s a great book but it’s an epic long read and tedious at times. Thankfully it has a cathartic ending and is full of gold nuggets in the middle. It is a little too preachy for my taste, and the character development didn’ ...more

I think this just became my favorite novel of all time. There is just such an amazing amount of depth to this novel. It covers so much of what it is like to be human and to live in a society of humans. The character development is the best I have ever read. The main focus of the novel is the dichotomy of good and evil, and how we as humans make sense of our lives and the eternal questions we have about God and morality.
