I have to give it five starts because once I was well and truly caught by the story, I couldn't put it down. This is certainly a new leap for me in the fantasy genre. It's more modern in flavor than The Lord of the Rings but in some ways is more realistic. There is enough spellcasting and mystery to make it mystical, but enough war and intrigue to make it interpersonally interesting. I am curious to see where the rest of the series will go, although be prepared for a lot of reading... this book alone is nearly 700 pages! ...more
