really enjoyed this book for its Gothic settings, surprising plot twists, memorable characters, and the way it shows the unfairness and potential for harm in the Victorian laws of marriage and property.

This is without a doubt the best Victorian novel I have read (much better than Dickens). It nails the multiple narrator flow a lot better than others I have read in the past. Also worth the read for the sheer characterization of Marian and Fosco alone. I debated giving it 5⭐️, however, the last 100 or so pages are a little redundant and lazily fill some plot holes.
