Now that I've read Dosty's "Brothers Karamazov", a great book, I can easily say "Anna Karenina" is my favorite Russian novel. And "A.K." is among my favorite novels ever. It just feels so true.
Tolstoy takes the dualities of "War and Peace" (1869) into the spectacular and far more intimate "Anna Karenina" (1877). Anna must be one of the most finely drawn characters in all of literature: she is at war, from page 1, with herself and her surroundings. She never learns that what she wants from the w

"Anna Karenina" was written by Leo Tolstoy in the late 19th century Russia and is considered by many as the greatest work of literature ever written.

The title is quite a misleading one. The book belongs as much to Anna Karenina as it does to Konstantin Levin, the other main character. This has been a wild ride and not for the faint of heart. It’s a marathon, and it feels like it doesn’t need to be.

There is an incredible amount of depth in this book, and Tolstoy’s ability to convey complex emotions is perplexing. Monumental and a masterpiece of words being used to describe the most subtle and mysterious elements of the soul and psyche. Probably the best book I have ever read save the Bible and War and Peace.
Tolstoy is not difficult to follow and I recommend the Maude translation - a classic! A more modern translation simply is not trustworthy.
