How to describe a book that has probably engaged me more than any book for about two decades? It's not for everybody, it's not easy, it moves effortlessly between the grotesque and the sublime, occasionally with only a few spare words separating them. And the ending will make you want to throw the book against the wall. An amazing maze of a novel. Its possible to read this , get to end and actually miss ending. I mean really missed the end, as in you drove write past it. Incredible.
(Can't recommend the Audible version highly enough. Perfect match of narrator to text & pitch perfect delivery.)
This sprawling, prescient linguistic treasure box was well worth the 20 year wait. Put it on your list to start some day when you're feeling exceptionally reflective and existentially challenged. This one is definately a struggle. I am going to finish it cause I said that I would, but I have no nagging desire to keep going back to it. When I do pick it up and read for awhile I am interested in the story, but I guess it feels like it's taking a really long time to gather steam. We'll see. Haven't given up yet, but I think it's going to take longer than just the summer.
