A solid 5 star book, I can't believe I have not read this until now. So many emotions are wrapped up in it - humor, passion, sadness, angst between right and wrong. It's definitely a book I will be rereading someday.

A fantastic retelling of Mallory, I can see why this is such a classic. Although I knew it was going to head into tragedy I lapped up the humour while I could and then settled down for a good cry once the dream was dead. Poor Wart and his lost happy childhood with his wonderful lessons from Merlyn. Poor Lancelot who I grew to love. Poor Round Table, broken irrevocably.

This took me FOREVER to get through. The first part, The Sword in the Stone, was enjoyable, silly and interesting. I liked the blend of Merlyn living backwards in time with young Wart trying to learn noble things and be a boy at the same time. The characters were ridiculous and larger than life, and the story just flowed. It also brought back fond memories of the film. After that first part, though, I just did not find the story engaging.
