I found the first two hundred pages a bit slow but I was still enjoying it. It was well written and the plot was interesting but it was just going to be a three star for me. However, about halfway through I started to really get into it and I didn’t want to put it down. The second half of the book was a five star.

The world building and politics were very well thought-out, but I felt like there weren't enough conflicts that made me think "oh no, how will they get out of this one?"
As much as I love action in books, this felt a bit too chase-scene and fight-scene driven, and could have used a tad more plot instead. That's what kept me from getting fully immersed in the story.
But I adored the writing style, because even the third-person narrative spoke the same way as the characters in that world do. ...more
