I started reading Fires of Winter wanting a like and frothy read and boy oh boy did it deliver! It's full of a headstrong often stubborn and very proud Brenna and her overbearing sometime daft Viking who seems to brood more then anything. This is my favorite of Johanna Lindsey. Mainly because her shrewish way of writing the heroine works here and is very endearing. Brenna is raised as a boy and suffers the traumatic invasion of the vikings so it makes sense that she is bullheaded, fierce, sarcastic, and some what of a hard ass about things. Delicious and tawdry. I still read romance novels for the same reason I still watch Days of Our Lives and The Young and the Restless. Impossibly pretty people, manipulating and scheming their way through the predictable and repetitive storylines. It's comforting in its familiarity, if not it's depth of plot or character development. But I don't care. I'm here to get swept away by something sexy and that's what I get.
