I thought, as I read this, it is all very heavy-handed and obvious. But now I've finished it I see it is a great work, and its study of 'human' nature broad enough to encompass all sorts of community structures and societies. It's simply about communism.

Having not read this at school I felt that I was missing out on a classic although I didn't really know what I was getting myself into. It's easy to see why is such a well known book and why it was banned as much as it was. Definitely a must read for all. Although I struggled to hide my frustration at the characters and situation when reading in public.
