One of my all-time favourite books - it has everything I love in books, plus some really extraordinary day fairytales. An absolute must-read

Kate Morton came onto my radar one day when I asked someone for a recommendation and they recommended her The Secrete Keeper. I was immediately dismissive because- well - the cover! It's pink! And has a frilly, fancy border! It's clearly NOT my type of book. I'm allergic to girly things. (I've never claimed that I'm not shallow.)

I was attracted to this book because it seemed to promise a fairy tale vibe, which is definitely the kind of vibe I like to read. From the synopsis, I didn't think it could go wrong: a young girl abandoned on a dock in Australia with only a book of fairy tales as a clue to her true identity.

A cool story, though I definitely think it took long to tell it, especially since I had it figured out long before the end. Even so, I'm always pleased to take a virtual trip to Cornwall and old houses with mysterious gardens!
