Sisters Red by Jackson Pearce is a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood. Only in this story, the wolves are pretty much werewolves. When the sisters, Scarlett and Rosie, are young, a Fenris attacks them at their grandmother's house, killing the grandma and severely scarring Scarlett. Left with scars all over her body and a missing eye, Scarlett devotes her entire existence to hunting the Fenris. She's always training, prepping, strategizing, or hunting. Scarlett has no time for anything else, believing that because she knows what is out there, it is her duty and responsibility to protect the innocents and to destroy the Fenris population. And because she is so devoted, she can't understand that Rosie (her sister) and Silas (her hunting partner) might not want to spend their entire existence constantly training and hunting werewolves.

While Rosie appreciates the need to hunt and take out the Fenris, she also wants to do normal things - go dancing, take a class, shop, have a boyfriend. Yet, because she feels that she owes Scarlett her life, Rosie always does what Scarlett wants. Until Silas shows up. When Silas returns to town, he and Rosie have a connection and Silas encourages Rosie to find her own life, to do things that don't revolve around werewolves. The relationship between Silas and Rosie is adorable. I loved the two of them together.

I really liked this story. I liked the take on Little Red Riding Hood and how the sisters would wear their red cloaks in order to lure out the wolves. These girls are fierce and deadly. I also really loved the relationship between the sisters. The two are so close that they have always believed they shared one heart. When Scarlett starts to feel and see Rosie drifting away, it terrifies her. Scarlett was a great character. She's been through so much and given up a lot. Her passion for hunting the werewolves can be a little extreme at times and it was frustrating to see her be so hard on Rosie and Silas when they didn't want to spend every second on hunting and killing. And yet I couldn't help but feel so horrible for Scarlett. She's so convinced that no one could ever love her and that she has no hope of anything resembling a normal life that she feels the only thing that she has, the only thing she can be good at and make a difference at is protecting the population by killing the Fenris. Through it all, she's so protective of and full of love for her sister. They seriously have an awesome relationship.

When the Fenris population starts to increase in their region, they learn that various gangs of Fenris have descended on Atlanta in order to locate a Potential, a person who the Fenris see as someone who can join them. So, Scarlett decides that if they can find the Potential before the Fenris, they can use the Potential for bait and lure out the Fenris. Their mission turns up being a lot harder and way more dangerous than they could have thought. Plus, there's the added strain the relationship between Silas and Rosie causes. I will say that I did see the twist coming and I while I was hoping I was wrong, I did like the way it worked out.

I enjoyed the modern take on a classic fairy tale, loved the relationship between the sisters, enjoyed reading the story from both the sister's viewpoints, and adored the love story between Silas and Rosie. The action was intense at times and the story definitely hooked me. Can't wait to read more from Jackson Pearce!

this tale of two sisters is smartly written with enthralling charcters and a thrilling romance.watching the two become different people and grow together at the same time with the help of the attractive and friendly Silas was an adventure i am proud to say i loved. recommended for melissa marr's loyal followers and anyone who LOVES old fairytales in a new light.
