eehhh... this book was okay. it's not one of those kids books that you can really enjoy as an adult too. you never stay with characters long enough to get to know them and a lot of the problems bastian had were resolved way to easily. i would have gave this book 2 stars but the edition i own has wonderful artwork with 2 different colors of font print, green and red. it's the only reason why i'm keeping this book and giving it an extra star.

This was one of my favorite movies growing up, but I never read the book and now going back and reading the book I kept on finding all sorts of little nuggets or images I remember from the movie, but it was all so new to me. In particular the second half of the story I am convinced was not in the movie at all. Reading this book made me feel like a child again.
I think this is just one book I read too late in life to fully appreciate it. While I might have enjoyed it around age 10 or so, it's just not polished enough for my current tastes.
Though, after reading it, Bastion's sudden insertion into the movie action makes a LOT more sense. ...more
