I appreciate the author's impulse to make an inverted Cinderella story in which the protagonist is not sweet and servile -- here she is dirty, willful, and rude -- but I'm not sure it really worked for me. It's nice that Hazel and the Prince had something in common (loving filth) but the whole thing felt very off-the-cuff, like a story that one makes up as one goes upon a spontaneous request.
