I was totally unfamiliar to the tale of The Magical Flute, so I went into the story without any background. Later when I finished the book I found out that the author based if off an opera of the tale, which I found interesting. I'm guessing it works better in that form than in a novel. You'll see what I mean later.

3 out of 5 again. This probably mostly has to do with the fact that I am not familiar with Mozart's opera The Magic Flute. I really do want to check it out though. So because I did not know the original story, I constantly found myself getting lost. I love that it is based off of a story that is performed by song, but I never was an opera fan...

I ADORE Ms. Dokey's work! Sunlight and Shadow is a retelling of "The Magic Flute". And it completely follows the story, but it doesn't at the same time. Utterly spellbinding!
