In my childhood, my parents read the original Oz books to us (or at least a lot of them), so I've been curious about this book for a while. I was uncertain if I'd like it at first: how could you take the Wicked Witch of the West and make her sympathetic? But I was on board before long, thanks to Maguire's whimsical and dark reinterpretation of the people we thought we knew in Oz.
