Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier is one of my all-time favourite books, that I like to re-read every few years. A retelling of the ‘Six Swans’ fairy-tale, set in ancient Ireland, it is a beautiful story of courage, love, peril and wonder set in a world where magic is only ever a hairsbreadth away from us all.

This is the kind of book that reminds me why I love fantasy and folklore. A re-reading for me, but I loved it all over again.

Juliet Marillier brings historical and mythical fiction together with admirable skill. She is masterfully sensitive to the subtleties of of language.

Anyone with an affinity for forests, seas, British Isle lore, and/or myths and fai ...more

Yet another fantasy novel marked as YA when it's so blatantly not! Are people really that daft?

Juliet Marillier is one of my favourite authors, I'll read anything she writes and give 4 or 5 stars every time.
