Shelves: into-the-forest-2019, read-women-2019

I'm pretty meh about this one. Perfect as a winter read, yet definitely felt too long, and then it adds more and more POVs, and then it tells the same scene from more than one POV which felt redundant rather than insightful.

But I loved Miryem and Wanda -- I hoped they'd end up together (view spoiler)) -- especially how they helped each other; no petty jealousies or fighting over a man or back-biting. ...more

This book is right up my alley - it feels like a fairy tale retelling, but isn't really - like Diana Wynne Jones' Howl's Moving Castle, existing in that fairy tale world but more than just that.

The real world elements such as prejudice toward the Jews added a cool depth and realism to the world to the point where I wondered if there were myths about the staryck in reality.
