I loved the ways in which the many stories in this unique novel were all strands in a woven tapestry. Or, perhaps it was a knitted tapestry, for there were stories, within stories, within stories, all linked. The blend of myth, fairytale, and legend, and the way the stories cross a world that feels at least as big as the one we live in, make this one of the richest novels I've read in a long time.

Very much enjoying this! I knew I was going to like it when the blurbs said things like, "[it:] should delight lovers of myth and folklore" and "a treat for all who love puzzle stories" and "Lyrical, wildly imaginative and slyly humorous".

Stories woven into stories woven into stories. This book grabs you by the hand and gently pulls you into a magical world that is more disturbing and dangerous than one would expect. Then all of a sudden you realize that it has let go of your hand and is now caressing your throat, ready to pull you in deeper. Perhaps you will drown.

i see what people mean about this book- it is very old-fashioned in style with the types of fairy tales that make up the story. Not too far into it but i like
