I read this because I saw the movie Seventh Son and liked it. The book is not much like the movie at all. It's the same idea: a young boy is training to be a Spook, which is sort of a traveling exorcist that everybody hates but pays well. It is a very dangerous job and several previous apprentices died before they finished their training (as we see in the beginning of the movie, though Billy Barnes' death was less horrible in the book). I liked the fact that this book was fantasy, but it also had some realism in it.
