This one wasn't quite as good as The Paradise Snare. The plot felt sort of listless, but it was still a very enjoyable read nonetheless. It definitely felt like the second book in a trilogy.

There really wasn't much of a plot, but I flew through the book so it obviously didn't bother me. I normally take some notes when I'm reading so I can remember my thoughts, and I was surprised when I opened my notes and I'd hardly written anything down. It's a fun read that is important to the next book.

This book focused a lot more on the machinations of the Hutts, which was done well. I cared less about the details of the smuggling community, but it wasn't bad. The worst part of the book was (view spoiler). Crispin is very talented at writing battles, so it was disappointing that this one was marred by that.

Crispin handled the inclusion of existing Star Wars characters pretty well. (view spoiler)

It's always interesting seeing books that were written before the prequels to see what the prequels retconned. The one that stood out in this one is Boba Fett's backstory, which sounds like it would've been better than being a clone. It was silly at one point though when, as he is flying over Tatooine, he looks down at sees the sarlaac for a second. Pretty cringeworthy. ...more
