This is the first book out of a three book cycle. In this book certain key characters are introduced such as Grand Admiral Thrawn, Captain Pellaeon, Talon Karrde, Winter, and most importantly Mara Jade. It also expands on certain characters such as Admiral Ackbar and Wedge Antilles.
I surprisingly enjoyed reading this book. It definatly lived up to it's reputation. Everyone's storyline was well written, and the scenes between Luke and Mara where some of my favorite along with the parts of Leia on ...more

The bulk of the major characters in the Expanded Universe are introduced in this first part of the most well-known trilogy in all of SW History.
Although, I understand that descriptive scenes are necessary for any and all Star Wars stories. I felt that the one issue I had with this book was the immense amount of description for all the planets and locations. We traveled to about 6 planets, which is a lot for one book, but also a lot to introduce in that same span.

Im not sure what i was expecting as it was my first Star Wars book but it was a whole lot better than i expected.
The plot is great and has a lot of nice little tie in with the original movies, even discounting the Empire's plot in Return of the Jedi with a few words, and the characters are great.
The way he gets characters like R2-D2 or Chewie to be part of the story without it being cheesey work very well. General Admiral Thrawn is a great bad guy and without spoiling anything, the ending le ...more
