OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG WTF did I just read??? At the beginning I was feeling like this was going to be a 4 star book and then I saw some of the things that Sebastian did that really disturbed me so I thought I would give this book 3 stars but then I read the last 7% and I was ready to give it 4 stars again. I feel like I have whiplash! This is such a hard book to rate because I liked it but I didn't like the people most of the time. They did some very disturbing things!

Taylor met Sebastian in the woods one day. She saw something she wasn't supposed to and she should have been killed to keep her quiet. Instead Seb saw something in her that he wanted. He saved her life and asked her to dinner. From there, their relationship grew quickly to the point that Seb was really obsessed with Taylor. I'm all for obsession and possessiveness but I think Seb really stepped over a line even for me.

"You are mine, Taylor, and I protect what is mine. I am the only one that should ever touch you.

When Seb says he is the only one that should touch Taylor he really means that he is the only one that is allowed to touch her, look at her, see her, interact with her. He is really bat shit crazy even past Jesse Ward standards. Still I really wanted to like this Sebastian and in fact I couldn't stop myself from liking him until he changed.

"The only words I want to hear out of your mouth at this point are, 'yes, Sebastian' or 'I would be happy to, Sebastian.' Anything else is only going to piss me off. Are we clear?"

Taylor was a likable character but she truly was one of the most naive characters that I have ever read. I really wanted her to get a spine but Seb made that completely impossible. Sebastian isolated her from her family and friends and there is no sugar coating the fact that he was abusive. Whatever his reasons I could not accept this and be ok with him as a human being. Even though the writing kept me immersed with this story I really did not like the way he treated Taylor. This dislike was so strong that I am still undecided, even with the 4 star rating, if I'm going to read the next book in the series.

"Whatever ties you had with your family are done. You are never to speak to them again. No phone calls, no texts, nothing. If I so much as think you are looking in their direction I will show you what hurting you really is. Is that clear?"

"Sebastian.... I love you, and I understand we need to be careful right now, but that's not funny. You can't really expect me to live the rest of my life locked up here like some kind of prisoner."
"Do you want to see what being under lock and key really is? I assure you that can be arranged. "

This book is dark, gritty, and definitely not your average romance story. I see Sebastian as a victim in this story but I still can't excuse his abusive ways. This book left me pondering so many things and I was confused at times about the whole SKALS thing. This is a great read but not something everyone will enjoy or can even tolerate. If you want something dark and you are ok with reading about abusive relationships then this might be a book you will enjoy.
