This book started off slow for me and took me a while to read but it had a nice pace once I figured out what was happening. It was quite unique from any other fantasy book I've read. I really liked the variety of magic and creatures. There were shape-shifters of different varieties , witches, vampires, and I assume that the heroine Kate Daniels is something mythical but I couldn't quite figure out what it was yet. Unlike a lot of other fantasy books this book was NOT filled with a bunch of smut.

This series is def. getting better and better. I am understanding the world a bit more and this book, even though still had some incredible world building) focused a little more on the characters. Urban Fantasy, or really anything genre with Fantasy in it, is not usually my cup of tea. However I find my self more and more intrigued with where this story is going, and I plan on reading the next three books very soon. Kate continues to grow on me. I liked this one even better than the first. I enjoyed the first one so I'm not sure why I waited so long to read the second. Can't wait to continue with the series.
