Kate seems to be growing up a little with this book, she runs head long into battles willy nilly like we have come to expect, but she also was able to step back and let others go first too knowing that the plan was better this way.

Kate also seemed to embrace her girly side in that she actually talked things through with the important people in her life. While they might not have agreed, both people were able to get the other to see where they were coming from.

The third book was great and the fourth book was awesome, so this book had a lot to live up to. Given the events in book 3 (Kate exposing her heritage at the Midnight Games) and the events in book 4 (meeting and killing her aunt), I expected the story to continue to move Kate toward the eventual showdown with her father.

This book felt like a pit stop in the overall story arc. Kate did learn more about her past as well as more about her powers and how to use them, but the villain(s) in this book
