This book had a delightful plot, full of twists and turns and misdirection so one is confused as to who is the hero and who the villain. At the end, the rescuing is done by someone else entirely.

The protagonists actually grow and learn from their experiences with each other, which is rare enough in fiction and often secondary to plot elements. I like that so much of that happens in this book without any preaching occurring.

Well worth another read someday.

Harry is ruthless! Harry Rutledge is my favorite of the Hathaway spouses. I love a man who will do anything for the woman he loves. He focuses the same intensity he's formerly used on business and science. Poppy is probably not my favorite of the Hathaway girls, but I believe she does live up to the challenge.Harry has a fascination with the kind of inventions that were beginning to change that culture.

All of the Hathaways are a delight so far. Though they've all dealt with hardship, the love and humor among them provides the backbone for the series. I really enjoyed the budding relationship between Harry and Poppy. Harry's dark childhood background added so much to the story, and made the romance much more sp ...more
