The Man Within: Feline Breeds 2! I don’t know why this series just does it for me. The Man Within was no exception. Again with the uber-alpha male, again with the “she’s known him all her life thing”, but this time? SCORE!!!!

I think I like The Breeds best of all the Lora Leigh series because the plotting works for me. Oddly enough, the The Island of Dr moreau cum Dark Angel thing is more believable to me then then some of the other "contemporaries" she writes. Deh I’m sure it’s because I just a ...more

What another Hot and fantastic read from Lora Leigh in the Breed Series! "The Man Within" picks up where "Tempting the Beast" left off.

I rate all of my books in the context of their specific genre, so my rating for The Man Within reflects the romantica/erotica genre. I feel the need to explain this, because this book can’t be compared to many of the PNR’s I have rated 4 stars, but it is certainly one of the better romantica/erotic stories I have read.

With the Breeds having recently gone public, they now not only face danger from the Council (those who genetically engineered them as lethal weapons by mixing their human DNA with I rate all of my books in the context of their specific genre, so my rating for The Man Within reflects the romantica/erotica genre. I feel the need to explain this, because this book can’t be compared to many of the PNR’s I have rated 4 stars, but it is certainly one of the better romantica/erotic stories I have read.

With the Breeds having recently gone public, they now not only face danger from the Council (those who genetically engineered them as lethal weapons by mixing their human DNA with that of wild animals, and seek to control them), but also from secular groups who see them as an abomination to be destroyed.

Roni is forced to flee to the Breeds safe house when the mating mark Taber left on her neck 15 months earlier is reported to the media by her father and they descend on her, throwing her life into turmoil. She is now a target, not just of the media, but also of the Council. Taber has protected Roni all her life, but that has never been more important than now – and Roni wants nothing to do with him since he broke her heart after leaving his mark, and then her life.

I enjoyed this, the send book in Lora Leigh’s Breeds series, a little more than the first one (Tempting the Beast). I liked that Taber and Roni had a history together, and that there was an additional complication and impediment to their acceptance of the mating bond other than just the heroine’s understandable reluctance in feeling compelled. I’m also glad that the author didn’t drag that out for the whole book.

Where I found the sex scenes became repetitive in Tempting the Beast, I didn’t feel the same with this one. Where Tempting the Beast was all about sating the uncontrollable physical urges that result from the mating process, The Man Within had to benefit of an existing relationship, along with genuine emotion.

There was little development of the Council element in the story, although they did contribute to some action and suspense that was also well done. We saw a little more of Callan and Merinus from the first book, along with some of the other Breeds, and Merinus’ brother Kane, whose book I’m really looking forward to.
