I sped through this book, not wanting or able to put it down. Now I am so sad its over and I don't know how I'm going to wait a year for the next in the series.
While I did not identify with Diana, I did get caught up in the storyline. (And can I get my own Matthew Clairmont please?). The characters are vampires, witches and daemons, but I found the story to be more literary than paranormal. It was brilliantly researched and written. I became an instant fan of Deborah Harkness.

To be honest, I am torn about how to rate this book (I think 2 1/2 stars is more approriate)... the plot was great and the amount of research the author did is impressive, as is her knowledge of things like genomes and DNA….. but, there is such a thing as too much world building and pointless data. I realize that this is the first book in a series, but I wish there was a bit more action and drama in this one. I did like the book overall, once I got over the fact that the first 2/3 of it reminded
