I don't even know where to start with this book. It was massive and rather intimidating.
It's been recommended to me a few times and I finally got around to reading it.
I wasn't impressed with the beginning of the book, it took me quite a few chapters to get into the book and start to care about the characters. I felt it was quite repetitive at the start, there's only so much reading and researching at the Bodleian Library I can read about.

This book was nothing like I expected. The writing was so descriptive. I loved the parts about Diana's alchemical research and Matthew's experiments. Also the descriptions of each creature were interesting. I loved the characters and can't wait to learn more about them. The mystery of the manuscript and the interactions between the creatures really kept me interested and I loved the chemistry between Diana and Matthew. I'm definitely continuing on to the next book.

Love this book the 2nd time as much as the first
This book has a wonderful rich storyline and well developed characters. The plot keeps getting more interesting and yet is easy to follow. Wonderful emotionally and intellectually connected relationships and compelling story.
Exciting start to the series, and a great take on witch, vampire, and demon lore. I wish there'd been a bit more about the demons (or daemons, as they're called), but perhaps that will come in later books.

Ugh, I didn't make it through much of this. I considered trying to get through it, but after reading some of the other reviews on here, it's just not worth it.
