Loved this as a 14 year-old.
Rarely do I say the movie is better than the book. But in this case it is true-- even with the Scientologist as Lestat. I never was able to connect to the characters in this book. The plotting felt stilted. However-- everything I said above is the opposite in regards to her second book, Lestat.
Very very very different from the movie. I wouldn't suggest that you go into reading this classic if that is what you're basing your interest upon. You'll be sadly disappointed. I found that future books of Rice are much better; though this was the book that started it all. Also Interview is much shorter compared to other Vampire Chronicles and takes on a more linear plot.
Needless to say that there hasn't been many series to stand up to Rice's work in the present paranormal/urban fantasy genres ...more
