Probably every Alan Furst book is a Five-Star read. Spies of the Balkans certainly is. This is Espionage writing at its best. In a few words, this story is about people with the will and determination to act and resist evil as they are nearly consumed by it, and many others were of course. Another outstanding work by Furst, the master of the WWII era spy novel. The brilliance of Furst is his ability to transport you in time to another era and make you feel like you are walking the streets with the main characters. This time, it's a deep dive into Salonica, Greece circa 1940.
