First let me identify myself as a reader of thriller novels. Since this novel is classified as a spy novel, my review might be unfair since I don’t read many spy novels. Therefore, I was disappointed and confused with the action scenes. For example, in one event, the author has his main character holding a gun on a door with two paid assassins banging on it demanding it to be opened and then there is an explosion and the door splinters. This is some real old-school stuff. Europe and the world on the brink of the abyss. Of course we all know what happened, but that just makes this story all that more incredible. We mostly look back at history through a long lens. With Mission to Paris, here's an opportunity to see it, smell it and taste it from the inside out. Paris 1938! Just imagine! Then take a look around you. It's like hearing a bell just before it's been rung.

Another great effort by Furst, this time focusing on a movie star sent to France to shoot a film in the year leading up to the onset of WWII, who ends up spying for the Allied powers. Once again, Furst manages to transport the reader into WWII era Europe, making you take in the sights, sounds and smells of the time.
