Excellent. Words cannot express the emotion in this book. It's emotion of having no emotion. It is the process of turning it off. Life was different then. It was the same. Everyone needs to read this. If you have a love of history, even an interest - read it. If you enjoy learning about the response of the human mind to certain situations - read it. It's not just a war story. Far from it. It is a lifetime. ...more

Reading this novel again with my seniors. Very interesting that they are clueless as to so much of the feelings and tumult from the war and its aftermath.
